10-06-2026 - Fewer Fed Meetings? Warsh Floats Six a Year

The FOMC meeting minutes (from July 28–29) attribute Chair Warsh as saying “six scheduled meetings per year…would allow more information to accumulate between meetings…and provide policymakers and the staff more time to consider strategic monetary policy issues.” Chair Warsh also said any change wouldn’t impact 2026 meetings.

The FOMC members were directed only to stew on the idea, though several have said they are open to it. If the FOMC decides to change to 6 meetings, the Fed would be out of sync with the European Central Bank, Bank of England, and Bank of Japan (and many other central banks), which hold 8 meetings per year. Fun fact: in 2016 the Bank of England moved from 12 meetings per year to 8, based on a recommendation from—you guessed it—Kevin Warsh, himself.
